Blogging for dummies

Actually, the title makes no sense, since this entry won't have instructions on how to write a blog post. I have never tried it before and never felt that I have any idea that needs to be shared online in more than two sentences.

To me blogging seemed like some sort of diary except that it is not secret. Oh and there are those celebrity and gossip blogs... they even give AWARDS to each other. I simply cannot imagine reasonable people giving awards to these bloggers like: "Yes, you spent countless keystrokes digging up dirt on famous actors and/or commenting what clothes they wear. You should get a medal!"

The blogs I've ever read were by my friends, who at that time, spent months in a foreign country, so they collected their experiences and photos to show to friends and family. I did actually enjoy these blogs because these people were important to me, I was interested in how they are doing, what places did they visit.

Now that I have been thinking, I think I've read blogs without noticing. I've read Developer Diaries by video game creators showing how they progress in making a new game; I realized this just now. Fairly regular posts, with videos, pictures and comments.

If I had to write a blog, it could be about three things: video games, books (mainly fantasy, horror, some sci-fi), or board games (I'm not talking about Monopoly or Scrabble but about role-playing, strategy and adventure games). I'd have to be consistent in topic, style and more or less with time, when I post a new entry. I don't think I would ever do something like this, but hey, you never know.

(I'm already doing it...)

So here's a quote from one of my favorite fantasy books, by the Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski:

“People," Geralt turned his head, "like to invent monsters and monstrosities. Then they seem less monstrous themselves. When they get blind-drunk, cheat, steal, beat their wives, starve an old woman, when they kill a trapped fox with an axe or riddle the last existing unicorn with arrows, they like to think that the Bane entering cottages at daybreak is more monstrous than they are. They feel better then. They find it easier to live.”
― Andrzej Sapkowski, The Last Wish

And here's some links on board games I like or play:

BoardGameGeek (I like the community and the vast amount of lists of games.)

Szellemlovas Társasjáték Szaküzlet (It's a webshop, real shop and a place where you can actually try out the games before considering to buy it or not. There are feedbacks on several products and you can share your experiences below the detailed review of the game.)

Thanks for reading my very first blog entry!

Chris

  1. Wow, never thought board games would come up here. I'd love to read a post about one or two.
